Abyssal

Winner of Best Art and Visuals at UW - Stout's Game Expo (Fall 2023)

Abyssal is a horror game where you play as a solo operator in a newly upgraded submersible called the Nightingale. Descending into the dark ocean depths, it's your job to investigate a lost sub's mysterious disappearance. I was responsible for concept art and animations for all characters/creatures.

Start Screen:

I created the game's start screen. The start screen was drawn out and animated in Photoshop. Fonts used for the start screen were downloaded from Adobe Fonts.

Characters:

Nightingale:

The Nightingale is the submersible controlled by the player as they explore the ocean. Below are the final assets I created along with some of the concept sketches I created.

There are alternate versions of the Nightingale's asset for when the player takes dammage.

Bosses

There are 3 main bosses in Abyssal, one for each level. Below are their concept sketches and the final assets used in the game. 

Unlike the other bosses, this one was created on a 32x32 tile while the other bosses are much larger.
